Revisiting Tulsa

So, I was talking with my husband the other day about my NaNo story. He's a wonderful sound board, always helps me fill in the plot holes.

We discussed what hadn't worked, why it hadn't worked, and whether I should even try to fix it. We ultimately decided I had a good idea, just needed to get some kinks worked out.

So, I am planning to spend time this week working on an outline/timeline for Zack and Cassie's story, The Bear and The Maiden.

I really love their story and hope you'll enjoy it too.

Have you ever had a story you love but just can't get right? Let me know in the comments!

So Many Ideas, So Not Staying In My Head

And the regular updates ended.

Sigh.

Life has been chaotic. I have hardly been able to breathe much less write, edit, make notes, research, or even create a file for a story.

Hopefully all the ideas will return and I'll be able to get back to the task of writing.

Sooner rather than later. Thank heaven for Salsa Con Queso or I might lose my mind.

Holy Cow Regular Updates Keep Happening!!

The problem with being a stay-at-home person, whether you work from home, are raising children, or just prefer to be a homemaking person, (no gender bias here) is that everyone assumes you have nothing better to do than go with them for appointments, run errands whenever they way, are available to chat all day, every day.

And I realize I tend to let others distract me from my stuff but it can still be exhausting to constantly have to tell people, I'm sorry, I have to get this project done, I can't go with you.

I need to learn to do tell people I can't go to things with them all the time anymore. It won't be long before I'm back in school and then school really has to be my job. And my boss has to be a mean bitch. :)

On a related note, I still have not chosen which story to work on. I'm sort of leaning toward a baseball story but nothing is really grabbing me these days. I guess I'll have to see what my brain comes up with in the next few days.

Have a great week and remind people, working from home is a job! Even if all you're doing is playing video games. :)

Why I Need to Get on a Schedule

My writing time should be sacred. I should never let anyone disrupt it.

I know this to be true because since I have been more relaxed about it I have all kinds of things getting scheduled during my writing time.

Which I realize is my own fault and I need to be better about my schedule.

That said my nails look amazing and I am not willing to give up my manicures.

Just gotta schedule them. :)

Another Busy Week Is Ruining My Writing Schedule

So this week was supposed to be fairly quiet. It's suddenly gotten quite busy.

My hubby had a doctor's appointment, my daughter had a small accident on her motorcycle, and I've been working on getting a term break from school.

All that said I've gotten almost nothing accomplished. I have until next Tuesday to get the examinations of my story ideas done. Fortunately, I have a call with my school tomorrow so I should be free for the rest of the week. Hopefully. We'll see.

Re-Examining Stories

So, I've decided to take 3 months off school. Both because I am seriously burned out and I need to raise money to go back.

That said, I'm going to start writing again. Or at least I plan to.

So this week I'm going back through all my stories. I'm looking at the series, I'm looking to see if I have an outline, I'm looking to see if I have a character sheet. I'm getting a headache.

Next week I think I'll work on character sheets and outlines. I'm hoping to start writing at the first of February.

I'll let you know how the prep work goes.

Writing with Distractions

One of the most difficult things I've ever done was to write with distractions around me.

In a perfect world I have an office. It's white, it's feminine, it's welcoming. Everything I need is right there near me. Reference books, a coffee maker, small fridge with healthy snacks.

I don't live in a perfect world. I have a daughter in her twenties, a stepfather who retired last year, a husband with a bad knees. There are three cats and a dog running around our tiny three bedroom mobile home.

That's a lot of people and animals in a small space. In addition, I'm in college, working on a bachelor's degree and my husband is working on a second Master's degree.

Distractions are a given in my house. So how do I work around them?

I am not a good person to ask that today. I haven't written in weeks and I'm having trouble studying. What I do know is when you have a schedule it seems to help. I'm going to get back on my schedule and hopefully will have had more success next week.
